Signs your eyesight is getting worse

Bad eyesight

Vision can change a lot throughout one person’s lifetime. Although you may have had a good vision as a child, problems start occurring as you grow older. There are also a variety of other factors that can lead to a decline in your eyesight. Here are some of the facts you need to know about vision problems and worsening eyesight.

Reasons why your eyesight is getting worse

Eyesight can change for many reasons, either due to the natural ageing process, an injury or trauma to the eye area causing further problems. However, if you notice your vision has changed quite suddenly, it’s always best to see an eye specialist immediately. Moreover, eyesight changes can be caused by eye diseases, ageing, injury, or even other underlying medical conditions such as diabetes.

However, you may need vision correction to help you see more clearly or further treatment to address the root cause. Furthermore, it’s essential to see an optometrist for more information if you notice gradual or slight changes in your eyesight. Some of the most common causes include presbyopia, where it becomes more difficult to see objects and details up close. In addition, cataracts (cloudiness of the lens in the eye) can cause glare sensitivity, poor night vision and ‘halos’ appearing around lights and is another age-related condition.

Glaucoma results from increased pressure build-up in the eyes and can lead to permanent vision loss if left untreated. Any of these conditions and others, such as fatigue or medication side-effects, can all cause sudden or gradual changes in vision.

Worsening eyesight

Factors that can contribute to worsening your vision

  • Getting older
  • Cataracts
  • Genetics
  • Lifestyle
  • Eye conditions
  • Temporary factors
  • Harmful lights

Eye pain for no reason is one thing. But if you experience eye discomfort after, say, drilling or hammering, it could cause concern. So first, get yourself checked by an eye doctor to make sure there isn’t something in your eye that could lead to an infection, as that’s definitely not something you want to get out of control.

While not all eye problems are a sign of something super serious, they shouldn’t be ignored. If you feel like your vision is worsening or experiencing any of the annoying symptoms above, be sure to make an appointment with your eye doctor.
